Thomas Merton

Thomas Merton (1915–68) was an American Trappist monk, writer, theologian, mystic, poet, social activist, and scholar of comparative religion. He wrote numerous books on spirituality, social justice, and comparative religion, as well as journals, poetry, and countless essays and reviews.
